One of the peculiarities of apartments found in banister houses which are traditional Milanese houses, is the lack of natural light. Transforming this duplex near the Navigli into a welcoming, warm and bright pied-à-terre was the main brief for the Interior Design project. By using shades of sunny colours and exploiting the overhead light from the roof windows we were able to create wells of light between the two floors, proving to be the winning move.
A reflection on the duality between the outdoor cycling environment and the indoor space - a domestic love story shared between wheels and design. Elements used in professional cycling were conveyed against harsh and smooth surfaces to enhance the drama of the urban setting, the dynamic architecture played by an articulated lighting design. We used mirrored walls, weathering steels Corten and metals against the white backdrop of the house. Some references to cycling were achieved through carbon fibre. Much of the Yin/Yang, feminine/masculine can be seen in the fine textures of the finishes contrasting with the soft figurative images of the artwork.Ultimately the space was laid out to create small theatrical stages from ground level to the top. We also provided project coordination throughout.
A city garden is a luxury one should exploit to its full potential. We were asked to design and create a three dimensional garden and a modular space to be used for entertainment. When laying out the garden we constructed surrounding walls to create a 3-level platform and 2 sets of step entrances to secure movement in and out of the fire pit from opposite corners. We kept the focal point on the external fire place and by carefully planning the lighting design, we ensured intimacy was achieved. Project coordination was provided throughout the process.
